What is NHS Pay Bands?
The NHS uses a national pay system called the Agenda for Change (AfC) pay system, which covers all directly employed staff except doctors, dentists and very senior managers. The pay system consists of nine pay bands, each with a number of pay points. The pay bands range from Band 1, which is the lowest, to Band 9, which is the highest.
The specific salary within a band and pay point will depend on the job role and level of experience. The starting salary for a Band 1 role is around £20,000 per annum, while the highest salary for a Band 9 role can be over £100,000 per annum.
The NHS pay review body recommends the pay increases for NHS staff each year, and the government approves these recommendations. Therefore, the salaries for NHS staff are subject to change each year. It is recommended to check with the NHS Jobs website or consult with a healthcare union or association for up-to-date salary information for specific roles within the NHS.
